In a recent in-depth look at Sony’s past and future, The Wrap sat down with the director Jennifer Kuska (Wild kratts, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania), who is directing a new ghost Buster animated sequel together with another director Chris Prinoskiwhich will be set in a brand new animated world. Ghostbusters: Afterlife veterans Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan will produce the project, and Kluska has opened up about it, saying:

“It feels very right and fitting to return to ‘Ghostbusters’ in an animated form. It seems that so many “Ghostbusters” fans are from that space as well. And that gives you this bigger, weirder stage to play on. And I think obviously we want to do something very new and different, like we always do, but we know there are so many ‘Ghostbusters’ fans who are just waiting to see this animated franchise again.”

As for what this untitled ghost Buster it will seem and seem, Kluska was both cautious and direct, as I’m sure there’s little she can really tell us so soon:

“By design, this will be different. I think all the films that Sony makes are very consciously stylistically and tonally different and increasingly visually as well. Technology and artistry propel the medium and we will be looking for our approach which will be a very specific link to the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise, the world of the supernatural and the telling of ghost stories.”

Sounds like Kluska, who says her introduction to ghost Buster came in the form of The real ghostbusters, the animated spin-off series that ran for a whopping 140 episodes from 1986 to 1991, has a good handle on the heart of the franchise and is working on something that will make fans happy. Can’t wait to see what he has in store. Stay tuned and we’ll let you know as the project develops.
