This year the Duffer brothers will be very busy preparing the big epilogue of ‘Stranger Things’. The Netflix series will say goodbye with its fifth season, of which we still know little. This last season will consist of eight episodes with which they promise to close the great mysteries of Hawkins and the Upside Down.
Matt and Ross Duffer said this a long time ago season five would be “the culmination of all that came before” and here’s why “has a little of each”, referring to the different nuances that each season has had. They also stated that their main focus, besides “resolve loose ends and make final revelations” is to finish the narrative arcs of the protagonists.
In that sense, if anyone has been asking for it for a long time, it’s Will Byers. The character of Noah Schnapp was at the center of the mystery of the first season, being the first of the protagonists to end up in the Upside Down World. After that he was more secondary, giving us weird moments, like those intense scenes at the end of season 4 where he opened up (figuratively) about his feelings for him.
In an interview with Forbes, Schnapp showed his enthusiasm for his character’s outcome: “I can only say that I’m very excited about what’s to come. I think they’ve done a great job with Will this season, playing whatever was needed in a very beautiful way. The way they close the series is just perfect: the story started with Will and will end with Will”.
Beyond “Stranger Things”
Joyce Byers’ (Winona Ryder) youngest son will then be tasked with shelving one of Netflix’s biggest blockbusters, which could close out its main story but plans are already underway for this universe to somehow continue. Among these we have a spin-off, which they have not released a pledge but which we know will not focus on any of the protagonists, and a version for the theater. There are also rumors of a series in anime format. But for now, the team’s efforts are focused on the fifth season, which still doesn’t have a release date on the streaming platform.
