As the year draws to a close, ‘Avatar: The Way of Watercontinues to add several thousand dollars at a rapid pace and experts predict that by the end of 2022 it could become the highest-grossing film of the year, surpassing the success of “Top Gun: Maverick”, the action film starring Tom Cruise.
The premiere of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ on December 16th was very well received all over the world and in less than two weeks it managed to cross the billion dollar mark at the worldwide film box office, something which ‘Top Gun: nonconformistit cost him 31 days on the bill, making it clear that James Cameron’s production is a resounding success.
Still, the Tom Cruise-starring action flick remains the year’s highest grosser, with more than $1.4 billion raised, while “Avatar: The Way of Water” just passed the $1 billion mark on Dec. 28, so has a few days to catch on ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and leave it behind.

If ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ manages to surpass the success that ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ had at the box office then it would become the best of 2022, but the truth is that it has only a few days to reach the target and if that doesn’t should that happen, then you’ll have to settle for second place though it is almost a given that by January 2023 she will have managed to raise more money rather than action movies.
For now ‘Avatar 2’ has already beaten ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ for managing to cross the billion dollar barrier at the box office in half the time that the action movie did, but that will have to wait a bit. little more to know if Pandora’s World gets the accolade for the best of the year.
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ needs another billion at the box office
Despite the fact that in its first two weeks ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ was a huge success at the box office, the truth is that it has to keep adding several thousand dollars, since its production was excessively expensive and the Experts say it needs to raise $2 billion to break even.
If this sum is not reached by the popular sci-fi sequel, James Cameron’s plans to present the 4th and 5th films could be jeopardized and thus the story would come to an end in 2024 with the premiere of the third part, which is already registered and is currently in the editing and special effects stage.
