Austin Butler says ‘Dune 2’ villain will be film’s ‘hero’

A few days ago, Denis Villeneuve finished recording ‘Dune: Part 2’, the sequel to the science fiction film considered impossible for many years, and which will return in 2023. Now, Austin Butler talks about his character, who will be the villain who Timothée Chalamet will have to face but who is believed to be the true “hero” of the sequel.

In an interview for Backstage (via The Playlist), Which Austin Butler mentioned ‘Dunes: part 2’, in which he will play Feyd-Rautha, nephew of Baron Harkonnen, and who will be the big villain of the plot that should have been revealed in the sequel. “[Denis Villeneuve y yo] we really try to dig deep into humanity [del personaje]. So, we had a lot of conversations and sorted it out together.

Unlike other stories, the ‘Elvis’ actor believes it Feyd-Rautha is a villain with a more human side, and the second half of the adaptation of the novel by Frank Herbert will be the time to present it for the first time. Unlike the book, where in the first chapters we read the enemy of Paul Atreides, trained to be a ruthless leader of his people.

The threats that will appear in “Dune 2”

Although in the first part (which is on HBO Max), Denis Villeneuve presented the great conflict of Paul Atreides on Arrakis, it will be the sequel to ‘Dune’ that begins the great adventure of Timothée Chalamet’s character, alongside Chani (Zendaya). And because of this, there are several threats that will oppose the call to be the Messiah of the universe.

Like all great antagonists, the villain has been through the same thing as the hero, but has made opposite decisions. In this case, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen is the same age as Paul, both come from powerful families and trained to be the savior of their people. And while they’re more related than they’d like, the two have taken similar paths.

Both Austin Butler and Denis Villeneuve were attached to develop Feyd-Rautha’s backstory. So this is expected to be a major part of the plot of this sequel, and a possible third part. On the other hand, “Dune: Part 2” has finished recording and is now preparing its release on November 3, 2023.
