British actor Dan Stevens has been cast to play police officer Alex Murphy and his cyborg alter ego in a new RoboCop television series produced for Prime Video.
The project from Amazon MGM Studios received an official green light one month ago, bringing the iconic law enforcement character back to the screen in a serialized reboot format.
According to reports in US media outlets including Deadline, Stevens emerged as a lead candidate for the title role of Murphy, a character originally created by filmmaker Paul Verhoeven in 1987.
The upcoming series has received an initial order of one season consisting of eight episodes, a standard commitment for high-budget genre fiction on the streaming platform.
The main storyline follows a massive technology conglomerate that convinces a city to adopt a powerful robot for its police department. The machine is implanted with the consciousness of Alex Murphy, a beloved officer killed in the line of duty.
