Nicole Kidman is honored with the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award

The American Film Institute (AFI) Board of Trustees will present its 49th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award to Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman during its awards ceremony on June 10, 2023 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Kidman is the first Australian actor to receive this honour.

“Nicole Kidman has captivated audiences for decades with the boldness of her artistry and the brilliance of a cinematic icon,” said Kathleen Kennedy, Chair of the AFI Board of Trustees. “She is a force that is bold in her decisions and bold in every performance. AFI is honored to give her the 49the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Kidman’s film canon includes work with filmmakers such as Jane Campion, Sofia Coppola, Baz Luhrmann, Aaron Sorkin, Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Lars von Trier and Stanley Kubrick.

She was nominated for five Oscars, four of them for leading actress Moulin Rouge!, The hours, rabbit hole and this year’s The Ricardos are for her performance as Lucille Ball and once in a supporting actress for Lion. She won best actress for Stephen Daldrys in 2003 doors plays the role of Virginia Woolf.

Her breakthrough came in Phillip Noyce’s 1989 thriller dead silent Throughout her career, Kidman has won a BAFTA Award, two Emmys for Lead Actress Limited Series and Outstanding Limited Series for HBO big little lies and six Golden Globes. In 2010, she co-founded her production company Blossom Films.

For her performance, Kidman won the London Evening Standard Award and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress. In January 2006, Kidman was awarded Australia’s highest honour, Companion of the Order of Australia. She also received the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for her role in doors. In 2017, the Cannes Film Festival honored Kidman on his 70th birthdaye Birthday award for her oeuvre and long history with the festival. She is one of only eight people to have received this honor.

Kidman has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women for nearly two decades. Over the years, she and her husband Keith Urban have raised millions for the Stanford Women’s Cancer Program, a world-renowned center for the study of the causes, treatment, prevention and eventual cure of cancer in women.

Among Kidman’s many upcoming projects is Lulu Wang’s foreigners for Amazon, lioness for Paramount+ and Holland, Michigan for Amazon.
