Like “Knock on my door”: that’s why Russian TV shows are far from Turkish ones

We tell you what helped the series to gain fame and why this success is difficult to repeat in Russia.

Among Russians, the Turkish TV series “Knock on my door” has gained great popularity. Eda’s story is watched with bated breath by ladies of all ages. Why did the domestic audience like this project so much?

Speaking to PopCornNews, film critic Oksana Agapova revealed the reasons for the show’s fame in Russia.

“Here the whole story is in a kind of novelty. These are new landscapes, new landscapes, new interiors for the Russian public. Turkey is a country with a certain color and history, also visually. In addition, these are completely new types of faces with very striking features. It’s always interesting to watch,” says Agapova.

Domestic projects do not deserve such recognition as foreign projects. But can they replicate the success of foreign colleagues?

“Can I give some advice to Russian colleagues in that sense? Probably not. It is the cultural aspect that is important. If you want to see some provincial history in Russia’s backyards, watch “Chiki”. And if you need a great historical drama, costumed, with bright expressive faces, so that it doesn’t look like a Russian context, then you watch The Magnificent Century. Everyone has to do their job. In Russia it pays to make honest and cool series about the here and now. Our authors can’t work very well with this, but still requests come from the public,” concluded the film critic.
