Queen Elizabeth II has written a new page in her long history as Queen of England by becoming the first monarch in British history to hold the throne for seventy years. It was on February 6 when this birthday was celebrated, a fact that happened to coincide with the death of his father, King George VI, from lung cancer. In this way, Prince Charles’ mother is in full preparation to organize her platinum anniversary which will take place in the coming month of June; and that will undoubtedly be an event across the country.
Buckingham Palace itself has been in charge of announcing all the details of the vast repertoire of festivities prepared to commemorate this milestone. While some activities will start before the agreed date, the main act will take place on June 2; moment when the famous Trooping the Color (The Banner Parade). That same weekend, both British and tourists traveling to the islands on these dates can enjoy a series of events such as a Thanksgiving Mass at Saint Paul’s Cathedral, which will take place on Friday, June 3; or a special live concert on June 4 at Buckingham Palace, attended by many famous faces in the country. On Sunday 5 June the Platinum Jubilee Pageantum, a gathering where some 5,000 people gather and where attendees can enjoy themselves by watching plays, listening to music or experiencing street art. How could it be otherwise, this day ends with fireworks, which will undoubtedly make this long-awaited moment for the Queen even more special.
A few days ago, on the occasion of this important event, Queen Elizabeth II reflected deeply on the future of the British monarchy, a subject of great importance to the Queen and in which she has always been deeply involved. Prince Charles’ mother confessed a few months ago that one of her greatest wishes is for Camilla Parker, the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of the Prince of Wales, to become ‘queen consort’ when her son ascends to the British throne after his death: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Carlos becomes king, I know that you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me, and it is my sincere wish that when that time comes, Camilla May she known as Queen Consort as she continues her faithful service As I look forward to the year of my platinum anniversary with a sense of hope and optimism, I am reminded of how grateful we can be. The past seven decades have seen extraordinary social, technological and cultural heritage from which we have all benefited and I am confident that the future will bring similar opportunities for us and especially the younger generations in the UK and Commonwealth. Presidents of Buckingham, Elizabeth II clarified her stance on the future of her country.
In that same letter, Queen Elizabeth II also did not forget the support she received from her British compatriots during her long stay as English monarch. Not without first glorifying the importance of the figure of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. “I am fortunate to have had the unconditional and loving support of my family. I was fortunate to have a partner in Prince Philip who was willing to play the part of a wife and selflessly make the sacrifices this entails It’s a role I saw my own mother play during my father’s reign,” concluded Elizabeth II.
