“Until then I didn’t realize how blessed I was to have such a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy with India – I admit I was naive enough to assume the next one would be so easy, but I had two early scans because I bled the dreaded self. They found a “very strong” heartbeat. However, on the third scan I was told, “I’m afraid there is no heartbeat.”
“My doctor told me that one in four pregnancies will end in miscarriage (not that statistics make it any easier!). Since 82% of my followers are women – that means around 237,800 women who ‘follow’ me could be (or have) the same thing, which is just so sad.
“When we talked to some close friends about our situation, we found out that some of them had also had a miscarriage in the past. I asked them why they never said anything and all they said was that they felt they couldn’t or shouldn’t talk about it. Almost like it’s a taboo subject, which is heartbreaking.
“When you’re going through this, I hope you give yourself time to heal mentally and physically and do what you need to do. I kept reminding myself that there was nothing I could have done and maybe this was nature’s way of saying that this little soul was not ready for the world for some reason. sending so much love
“I later found out that the @MissCarrierAssociation is available to help anyone who has/is experiencing this. It is a national charity that provides support and information to anyone affected by a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, both women and men.
How at least one in six pregnancies end in miscarriage
One in six pregnancies in women who know they are pregnant will miscarry.
But even more happens to women who do not know they are pregnant.
A miscarriage occurs when a pregnancy is lost within the first 23 weeks of conception.
The main symptoms are vaginal bleeding, which can be accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen.
There are several reasons why women can miscarry – these are common and usually not caused by anything they’ve done.
If a miscarriage occurs in the second trimester – between weeks 14 and 26 – it may be a sign of an underlying problem.
Often miscarriages are isolated events and women will have successful pregnancies.
Most miscarriages cannot be prevented, although general health will help reduce the risk.
Losing three or more pregnancies in a row – known as recurrent miscarriage – is not common, but it still affects about one in 100 women.
