Queen Letizia ‘swears’ at the guests of the Princess of Asturias for a protocol error

Queen Letizia became the protagonist of one of the most awkward situations of the reception ahead of the Princess of Asturias Awards. It was time to kiss hands and the guests approached one by one to greet the Spanish royal family. From left to right they were; King Felipe, Princess Leonor, Queen Letizia and Infanta Sofia, and protocol dictates that the firstborn of the kings of Spain be greeted first. However, some in attendance skipped over or greeted the heiress to the throne after shaking hands with Don Felipe. Noticing the situation, the queen did not hesitate to intervene. Doña Letizia immediately commented on one of the guests, who corrected the error to comply with protocol and it didn’t happen again with the rest of those in attendance.

The gesture has been highly commented on social networkswhich are divided into two camps. On the one hand, there are those who support Letizia’s correction and claim that it brings order to these kinds of situations. On the other hand, some users are against this attitude of the royal family because they consider it haughty. The position of Princess Leonor, situated between her parents, caused confusion among the guests, who believed they should greet the royal family in order. Doña Leonor is the Honorary President of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, which is why she is now responsible for delivering the pin with the gold-crowned shield of Asturias.

It’s not the only failure we’ve seen all weekend. Princess Leonor played in one of the funniest moments with her father, just after she gave her speech at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo. The heiress to the throne received a warm applause from the audience, which she accidentally joined. It was King Felipe who told him to stop clappingto which she responded with an endearing gesture and a smile, causing her father to let out a slight laugh.

There is another moment that has also caught the attention of the viewers. Queen Sofia, who wanted to accompany her granddaughter on such a special day, was left ‘hanging’ in the foyer of the theater. The King and Queen, their daughters and Doña Sofía posed at the entrance to the Campoamor Theater and later greeted authorities in the lobby. It was at this point that Letizia and her daughters approach to talk to the guests while the king withdraws slightly and Doña Sofia remains behind. The emeritus informs her son that she is going to the stairs to take her place in her box, and Felipe lightly strokes her arm before leaving.

East rudeness on the part of his daughter-in-law and his two granddaughters, adds to a long list of awkward moments that don’t leave the king’s wife in a very good place. The first time we witnessed the bad relationship between Doña Letizia and her mother-in-law was in Mallorca, when they became the protagonists of a scuffle that is still remembered today. Palma Cathedral was the scene of the family fight that was immortalized by the media present. After the Resurrection Mass on Easter Sunday in 2018, Doña Sofía wanted to take a picture with her two granddaughters, but Letizia decided to prevent this by all means and started a few minutes of maximum tension.

King Felipe’s wife stood between the photographers and her mother-in-law prevent them from reaching the image of the grandmother with her granddaughters. Princess Leonor showed she was on her mother’s side by knocking her grandmother’s hand away, a gesture that her sister Sofia fortunately did not imitate. Don Juan Carlos and his son realized the situation and tried to calm things down, even though the television cameras had already captured the entire sequence. Without a doubt, Queen Letizia did not know how to control herself and it was very expensive, as the press condemned her attitude and supported Doña Sofia.
