BAFTA’s traditional pre-Emmy night will not take place this weekend as planned. Following the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death at the age of 96 today, the decision was made to cancel the event.
“In light of today’s sad news of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s death, BAFTA TV’s annual tea party will no longer take place this weekend,” the organization said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the death of her Majesty the Queen, whose close association with the BAFTAs has lasted 50 years. Our thoughts go out to the President of the BAFTA, His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge and to the Royal Family, to whom we extend our deepest condolences.

The BAFTA Television Tea Party, a fixture of the long weekend of the Emmys, is scheduled for Saturday 10 September from 2 to 5 pm in Maybourne Beverly Hills. Guests included Alex Bornstein, James Cromwell, Caitlin Dever, Andrew Garfield, Melanie Lynskey, Simone Missick, Himesh Patel, Christina Ricci, and James Smith Cameron.
Today, the Canadian Consulate’s Emmy Party, scheduled for tonight in Hollywood, was postponed “out of respect for the Queen’s death” and in compliance with protocol.
