Almost two years after it was first announced, the new Star Wars TV series The Acolyte has a new cast, Jodie Turner-Smith.
The 35-year-old actress has signed on to star in the series with Amandla Stenberg through Scadenza.
Stenberg joined the series in December, but no details have been revealed about his character or that of Turner-Smith.

The show was first announced in April 2020 with Headland coming aboard to lead the show.
It has been described as a “female-centric series set in a different part of the Star Wars timeline from other projects”.
Disney officially announced the project in December 2020, describing The Acolyte as “a mysterious thriller that takes viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and dark forces that emerged in the last days of the High Republic era.”

The High Republic era in the Star Wars saga takes place nearly 200 years before the Skywalker era in the original Star Wars movies.
The High Republic era was largely a period of peace when the Jedi order flourished and the Sith were believed to be extinct for centuries.
The title Auxiliary most likely refers to Utility, a government program designed to recruit Force-leaning youths to become Sith Aides for the Galactic Empire trained under a Sith Lord.

Production of The Acolyte is expected to begin in London in the late autumn, but it’s unclear when they will air it.
Headland will produce the series and serve as executive producer, but no further details have been provided for the creative team.
Headland is also known as a director for both his roles (The Bachelorette Party, In Bed with Other People) and TV (Russian Baby, The Only Drunk Woman).

Turner-Smith received critical acclaim for playing Queen alongside Daniel Kaluuya in 2019’s Queen & Slim.
She also starred alongside Michael B. Jordan in Amazon’s No Remorse and played the title character in the AMC miniseries Anne Boleyn and will soon be seen in Murder Mystery 2 and The Independent.
