The premiere of the US version of “The Irony of Fate” in Russia is scheduled for September 8. The rest of the world starts rolling a day later. Obviously, the filmmakers want to please the Russian audience.
Stoyanov believes that the remake will not be able to surpass the original. The classic “Irony of Fate” has become a cult for Russians, but the American rethink may not find an answer in the viewer’s soul.
“I can say one thing for sure: it is very difficult to ‘break’ such a tradition. I don’t envy this picture at the Russian box office. And there, abroad, anything can happen, because they do not know Ryazanov’s film. Unfortunately,” Stoyanov lamented in an interview with Teleprogramma.pro.
