In the participant documentary, Poitras describes how Goldin confronted the Sacklers, holding them responsible for the deadly opioid epidemic, in his crusade that followed his own battle against opioid addiction. He emerged from the New York No Wave subway and became one of the best photographers of the late 20th century. Goldin has been at the forefront of the fight against the Sacklers, both as an activist for art institutions that have received millions from the family, and as an advocate for the destigmatization of drugs. Goldin recounts the document, which also focuses on her dysfunctional suburban upbringing, the loss of her teenage sister, and her community’s struggle against AIDS in the 1980s.
