Oscar-nominated star Taraji P. Henson will host for the second time in a row tonight at the BET Awards, broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Founded in 2001, the Black Entertainment Television Network (BET) Awards celebrate African American music, acting, sports and other entertainment stars over the past year.
In a recent interview, Taraji spoke about the importance of the BET Awards and how they have supported it throughout her career.

Speaking of the ceremony, Essence said, “No matter how big my career is, no matter how high my star gets, I will never forget my community.”

After greeting leading black women last year, Taraji also told Variety how this year’s show will focus on Hollywood’s celebration of black men.
“For me it’s all about balance,” Taraji explained. “We have enlightened incredible black women and this year we have to elevate our men.”
This includes honoring Sean “Diddy” Combs with the BET Lifetime Achievement Award.
“She’s getting her flowers,” he joked. “I thought it would be a great opportunity to stand up for him and lift up all the men he inspired and those who inspired him.”

That said, while Doja Cat takes the lead with at least six nominations this year, female talent is still at the forefront, as Drake and Ari Lennox both nominated four.
The rapper’s hit album Planet Her will be nominated for best female R&B/Pop artist and female hip-hop artist, while competing for album of the year.
The success of Doja Woman, which made her the first female rapper to hit the top 10 on an album, was also nominated.
Meanwhile, Drake was nominated for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Video of the Year.
