Natalie Portman talks blowout for Thor: Love and Thunder

In the upcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman explained how being a superhero has had a transformative effect on her personal life, both in terms of her fitness regimen and relationships with her kids.

In a new interview with Variety, the 41-year-old discusses growing up for the role as her character transforms into Mighty Thor alongside Jane Foster’s muscular co-star Chris Hemsworth.

Portman compared the process to her Oscar-winning role in 2010’s Black Swan, where she lost 20 pounds through diet and exercise but now needs to gain weight and build muscle.

“On Black Swan, I was asked to shrink as much as possible,” he explains. ‘I was asked to be as big as possible here. This is a big challenge and also a state of mind as a woman.

Her process of becoming a superhero has also gone well with her children—five-year-old Amalia and 11-year-old Aleph, whom she shares with her husband, Benjamin Millepied—who are delighted to see their mother at work.

“I feel like this is the stage in my career where I’m really trying to influence my kids,” Portman told Variety.

“My 5 and 10 year olds were so impressed with this process that they went to the set and saw me in a cape. It really did great. My kids rarely say “Please get down to business!” they say. Usually the opposite happens.
