Things got emotional on Monday’s episode of This Morning, when host Phillip Schofield burst into tears as he spoke to Kelly Holmes after he proudly declared himself gay.
This morning’s host Phillip Schofield was left in tears as he spoke to Kelly Holmes after she had come out gay.
The 60-year-old host hosted the episode on Monday (June 20) alongside Holly Willoughby as the couple welcomed the Olympic gold medalist to the ITV studio.
Kelly, 52, told the world in a Sunday Mirror exclusive that he was gay after “living in fear” of sharing his sexuality.
As Kelly tried to hold back the tears, Phil admitted, “Yesterday you said on your Instagram that you were scared, and I was like, ‘Don’t be scared, you’ll be fine.”
The guest with a lump in his throat had to take a second when he started crying.

Collecting his words, he asked, “How are you feeling now?”
The Olympic legend explained: “I’m relieved to finally do it, but it’s hard to fix everything, so I know relief will come gradually.”
Speaking candidly to the presenters, things got exciting as Phil reflected on when he was in that position when it came out in February 2020.
“Il n’y a pas si longtemps, je me suis assis à cet endroit précis et nous avons dit qu’un jour nous n’aurons plus à faire ces interviews, un jour cela n’aura plus Importance”, se souvient -they.

The Dancing On Ice host explained that Kelly’s coming out will benefit other people and make everything easier for them.
“We’re not there yet, though, but every time someone does it publicly and does it right and shows they’re right, it’s easier for others,” said Phil.
Kelly confirmed that helping people was one of the reasons she decided to make her documentary, Kelly Holmes: Being Me, and why she “needed” to talk about it.
He added: “The documentary has been a way to express the fear I’ve had for so many years and has allowed me to have a platform that will hopefully educate and inform people about the intricacies of being gay.”
The athlete spoke of additional pressures to hide his sexuality while in the military, as it was illegal to be gay at the time.

“I grew up with this fear in my head because I loved being in the military, I did it for almost 10 years, but it was very difficult because there were interrogations,” confessed the former 800-meter runner.
“I have never publicly said that I am a gay woman. People don’t realize how difficult it is to say that word. I’m not ashamed, I’ve been since I was 18.
At the end of the tearful segment, Phil asked, “I’m going to ask this question and you can nod, please tell me there’s someone special in your life.”
Laughing, Kelly nodded as Phil replied “Pretty good”.
