Fans “Will Trent” will have to be patient: the fourth season of the popular detective series will only be released in 2026.
ABC has officially extended the series before the final of the third season, but there will be no new series this year.
The series, based on the books of Karin Slotter, first released in January 2023, and the final of the third season took place in May 2025. During this time, “Will Trent” succeeded in winning the love of the public thanks to the unusual main character – the agent of the Bureau of Investigation of the State of Georgia, GBIEZ. In the new season, the actor will appear on the screen again and even perform the director at least one series – according to him this is exactly what was a “logical step after the premiere of the third season”.
The fourth season will consist of 18 episodes – Deadline reported this. Although the exact date of the premiere has not yet been announced, ABC promises to release the continuation at the beginning of 2026.
The previous seasons traditionally started in January (first and third) and February (second), so there is just over six months to wait.
The third season was reminded by the release of Gina Rodriguez (public prosecutor Marion Alba) and Scott Fowley (Dr. Seth McAdele). The creative team of the series does not exclude the return of both characters, but there are no definitive solutions yet.
“Working with Gina was great, and I would not exclude her Cambet in the fourth season,” Shared Showreanner Liz Helds.
With Fowley the situation is comparable: “We can enter it in every episode, literally in a day to remove all his scenes – we will look at the situation.”
In the final of the third season, the audience met Will’s biological father for the first time. It is still unknown whether this character will return in the fourth season, but the makers clearly have plans for the development of family themes:
“The appearance of his father has discovered many new plot options for us,” explains Soshouranner Daniel Tessen.
In general, show rans hinted that all heroes are waiting for noticeable changes. “Towards the end of the third season, each character experiences its own small seismic shift – and this allows us to keep telling their stories,” says Tomben. The central theme of new episodes will be the family, and the screenwriters promise to reveal both clear and dark sides of the relationship between Will and his father.
