Christopher Nolan is rarely mistaken with the choice of genre and stories.

In his filmography there are almost no weaknesses, and the Oppenheimer was completely an event – both at the cash register and at prices. But the director admits himself: among all his works there is one that was never appreciated. We are talking about the Insomnia thriller of 2002 with Al Pacino and Robin Williams.

Nolan told about this in the book Tom Shona “The Nolan Vari”:

“I am very proud of this film. I think this is probably the most underrated. In fact, this is one of my most personal films in the sensations during filming. It was a very clear time in my life. The first studio project, field shooting, the first shooting with really big stars. Yes, I am really proud of them.”

“Insomnia” was Nolan’s first work as part of the Hollywood studio – after success “remember”. The film was released on May 24, 2002 and, with a budget of $ 46 million, collected:

  • Cash costs in the US: 67.3 million dollars
  • World costs: $ 113.8 million

Financially the film doubled the budget, but remained in the shadow of other Nolan projects – and, more importantly, in public perception. Years later ‘insomnia’ is mainly recalled by professionals, not a massive viewer.

Now Nolan is being prepared for a career for the next large scaling project – the adjustment of the Odyssey. The film promises the composition of the stars:

  • Matt Damon
  • Tom Holland
  • Anne Hathaway
  • Charlize Theron
  • Robert Pattinson

If the predictions come true, the Odyssey can beat the success of the Oppenheimer and Nolan even firmly determine the status of the director of the decade. But as he admitted himself – he is not going to change his opinion about his most underrated work. According to him, “insomnia” will remain a special film for him, even if the audience still bypasses him.
