Prior to the release of the new “Superman” there are a few days, and the rates in the industry are almost physically felt: the film opens a whole dwarf under the DC Studios brand, which is now controlled by James Gann and Peter Safran.

Against the background of recent failures such as the Second Shazam and Flash, as well as a clear Cooing Interest in the Super Hero Genre, many miracles when Superman becomes another victim of the over -saturated market.

Gann is calmer. In an interview with GQ, he immediately stated: rumors that the photo will fail if he does not win 700 million – nonsense. According to him, the budget is not as priceless as they think on the internet, and the success of the film does not depend on figures with seven zeros.

“Yes, something depends on it. But not as much as everyone thinks,” says the director.

Such a reaction is not surprising: in contrast to the attempt of the past to build a dice DC (then led by Zach Snyder), Gann does not put everything on one film. The first chapter of his project is called “gods and samples”, and in it, in addition to Superman, films are planned about Superherl, clay and other less obvious characters. The failure of one project will not now bury the entire structure – but of course the start wants to be confident.

The financial background of the genre is now difficult. The last Marvel films collect less and less, even loud titles can hardly repel the budgets. The same “Captain America: New World” with impressive reimbursements of 415 million are officially considered unprofitable – nobody has canceled marketing costs. DC is no better: the 2023 failures doubted the idea that superheroes are still worried about someone.

Gann himself ensures that the point is not in the genre, but in which stories are told and how much the viewer is for everyone to worry about. He already proved this with the “Guards of the Galaxy”, who remained one of the most lively and successful Marvel projects under his leadership.

Even despite the fact that his “suicide team” did not ever go to the cash register, critics appreciated him – and the failure was rather a consequence of Covid and the simultaneous release of the film about streaming.

So Gann has reason to speak confidently.
