The real heritage of our cinema.
Soviet films for us are not just a classic. This is fun, youth, tradition. On New Year’s Eve we always judge the “irony of lot” or “operation” y “, as if we are trying to keep the feeling of the holiday that it was once. Our cinema has repeatedly proven: there are good films, not just in Hollywood. The masters of the domestic screen – directors, operators, screenwriters – were part of the jury of the most prestigious film festivals, received prizes and were at the forefront of world publications.
Flying the cranes took the Golden Palm branch in Cannes in 1958. In 1962, Bafta received the ballad of a soldier as the best foreign film. And in 1972, Solaris, Tarkovsky received the jury Grand Prix at the same Cannes festival.
The name Tarkovsky in the Western area was generally synonymous with high cinema. His films – “Solaris”, “Andrei Rublev”, “Stalker” – are studied at universities, quoted in lectures, assessment, discussing, interpreting. Only Lars von Trier is worth it: he admitted more than once that he was inspired by the works of Tarkovsky and even borrowed some tricks.
A separate conversation is operator work. Sergei Urusevsky, who shot the “cranes”, “I am Cuba” and “un -well -stocked letter”, is still considered the standard of visual story. Emmanuel Lyubetski – the laureate of the three “Oscars” and the author of Visual Magic in “Gravity” and “Surviving” – openly spoke about his admiration for Urusevsky.
So if someone still thinks there is no good film outside of Hollywood, he should certainly see what was included in the Soviet Union. Well, we can only be proud of: our films know how to touch their souls – both of themselves and those of someone else.
