Pixar stumbled again. The studio, which once produced one by one, is now running out almost the most financially failed project over the years.

The new cartoon “Elio”, in which almost $ 300 million, was drowned in the United States with a prediction for a miserable $ 30 million. Or maybe even less.

According to American standards, this is a disaster. Even the morbid “basic” opened at the same level ($ 29.5 million), and only thanks to the miracle he reached $ 500 million around the world. But Elio has no wonder or a hype – only the void in the info and a calm drain.

Critics are moderately configured: 61 points for Metacritic and 79% for rotten tomatoes. This is even higher than much expected – especially given the fact that the film was literally completely crossed a year ago. In 2023 the project cracked with the seams: director Adrian Molina left the post, and brought the cartoon to Domi Shi and Madeline Sharafan, known for “I Blush”.

Elio tells about a boy who accidentally comes into space and suddenly becomes a “representative of the earth” in the Intergalactic Council. On paper – cute. On the screen is expensive and strange. According to rumors, the project became a real headache for the creative director of Pixar, Pete Docter and Disney, and this can be seen: there is almost no advertisement, there is no press trip, noise around the cartoon is zero.

Will Elio save international rental? It is unlikely. At this stage, Pixar not only needs a positive hype – but a miracle that is not yet visible, even in a telescope.
