Gorka Marquez, 31, shared “very sad” news with her fans on Instagram and her friend Maisie Smith left words of support.

Posting a smiling photo of himself on stage, Gorka explained that he was forced to retire from the summer tour of Strictly Come Dancing.

The professional dancer explained that doctors warned him not to perform after suffering a bad injury.

Its caption read: “I am very sad to announce that, on medical advice, I have to withdraw from the ‘Strictly Presents’ tour.

“During the ‘Strictly Professionals’ tour, I suffered an injury which, with care and treatment, kept me going for the last few weeks of the tour.

“Unfortunately last week I had a flare-up of my injury which caused me a lot of pain and problems, especially on foot. Following the advice of doctors and physiotherapists, I had to stop participating in this new tour.

Gorka continued: “I’m so sad that I can’t play and dance with @maisiesmithofficial (and the rest of the cast!) Anymore, but I know the show is going to be great and the audience will really enjoy it. Now is the time to rest and rehabilitate so I can be ready for Strictly 2022. All love and keep dancing!

EastEnders star Maisie Smith, who danced alongside Gorka at Strictly 2020, wrote, “We will miss you,” and the dancer responded with a sad emoji and a kissed face emoji.

Gorka’s partner Gemma Atkinson, with whom she shares her two-year-old daughter Mia, said she was “proud” of how the dancer has dealt with the pain of the past few weeks.

He posted: “I’m so proud of you for making it through the last few weeks! I know how painful it was for you at times.

“Rest and rehabilitation, then go back to the show. I can’t keep you home too long to ruin my routine. “

Many of Gorka’s colleagues at Strictly also got in touch. “I love you brother xxx, take care of yourself,” wrote Dianne Buswell, while Amy Dowden joked, “Rest!”
