Ian dropped out of the project for an obvious reason.
Disney has finally released the first teaser for the upcoming blockbuster Thunderbolts starring Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell, David Harbor and Sebastian Stan, but the first images from the film shocked fans.
The story of a team of former supervillains who decide to side with good, it was supposed to introduce fans to the character of the Sentry, but fans didn’t see actor Steven Yeun, who was set to play the legendary antihero, in the trailer.
Some viewers began to worry that the Sentry had been removed from Thunderbolts, but Ian’s absence from the trailer can be explained much more simply: the actor left the cast of the film last year and was simply replaced by another actor.
But why didn’t Yang decide to star in the MCU blockbuster?
The fact is that filming was supposed to start in 2023, but due to a strike of actors and writers, filming was postponed until 2024.
Ian had to turn down the role of the Sentry due to a scheduling conflict – he had already signed a contract for a role in another film and simply could not appear on the set of Thunderbolts.
Yang hasn’t yet announced which film he’ll be sacrificing his MCU role for, but the film will certainly be released in the coming months.
Luckily for Sentry fans, talented newcomer Lewis Pullman, who starred in Top Gun 2 and the TV series Chemistry Lessons, has signed on to play the antihero.
Thunderbolts will be released worldwide on April 30, 2025.
