Despite the failure, the film became a cult film – and even received an Oscar nomination.
Long before he became the world-famous agent Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise tried to realize his acting talent in various projects – and even starred in a fantasy melodrama by Ridley Scott. The latter has also not been considered a master of fantasy for a long time, and the reason for this was most likely the resounding failure of “Legend”, a 1985 adventure film in which Tom Cruise played the leading role. .
However, the film is still considered a cult film and will soon be available on a free platform. According to some sources, ‘Legend’ will be released on October 1 on the free streaming service Tubi.
The plot of the film revolves around the forest wanderer Jack, who goes in search of his beloved Princess Lily, imprisoned in the underground kingdom of darkness. Along the way, Jack will encounter many obstacles created by the Lord of Darkness – the latter enchanted the magical forest and ordered his subjects to kill all the remaining magical unicorns. Now only Jack and his friends can save the world from a cruel tyrant.
After its release in 1985, “Legend” never became a commercially successful project; the film earned only $16 million with a budget of 15 million and besides, he didn’t get a very high rating 41% from critics (the audience still liked the picture more – in Russia it was appreciated 6.8 out of 10). Nevertheless, “Legend” eventually achieved cult film status and later received an Oscar nomination for best make-up.
