Zack Snyder’s animated series was better received by critics than many of his films

Zack Snyder has established himself as one of Hollywood’s premier visionaries, but that hasn’t made his career path any easier.

For years it seemed that the director was going through a creative crisis, as neither Army of the Dead, nor Army of Thieves, nor the Rebel Moon duology managed to gain recognition from critics.

And then he surprised everyone by releasing an eight-episode animated series on Netflix called ‘Twilight of the Gods’.

With a Scandinavian flair, the story explores a classic revenge plot using mythic heroes and original characters.

The wedding of the Viking king Leif and the warrior Sigrid ends in tragedy when Thor, searching for his brother, appears at the celebration and destroys the entire village in a rage.

Loki offers the heroine a choice: oblivion or life, in exchange for which she will kill Thor and begin Ragnarok. She gathers a team of desperate daredevils and sets out on the trail of God.

The show was warmly received by audiences, as evidenced by an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.2 rating on Kinopoisk.

Professional reviewers were also supportive and appreciated the creators’ efforts 64% of 100 – which is more than half of Snyder’s work.

Among the film’s merits among fans were its “juicy” cinematography, Hans Zimmer’s music, an enduring sense of epicness, and the ingenuity of the performers.

“This is the best design of Loki I’ve ever seen. They kept the familiar look, but emphasized his origins by making him look like a snow elf,” admired one commenter.

What many didn’t like was Thor’s voice acting, whose voice sounded youthfully high.
