Romantic comedies are movies where love always wins and awkward moments lead to a happy ending. There is no hint of realism, and if there is, it is very rare. We see them escaping from reality, although we understand that such stories are rare in life. This is the realm of perfect accidents, unbelievable coincidences and “you just have to keep going.”
And even though these movies are nothing like real life, we love them for their warm atmosphere, sparkling dialogues and vivid emotions. This article contains 10 romcoms that are far from the truth, but always cheer us up and make us believe in miracles.
It was impossible not to include the wonderful ‘Pretty Woman’ starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere on this list. At one time, this film was the highest-grossing romantic comedy in cinema history – and no wonder, because everything about it seems perfect. And the chemistry between the lead duo, and the plot, and individual scenes (we still enjoy watching Roberts’ character triumphantly return to the store from which she was condescendingly led).
Of course, that doesn’t mean this isn’t the perfect story of how Prince Charming Richard Gere literally grabbed a girl off the street and turned her into a queen. You definitely shouldn’t expect all real-life relationships to play out like this – but we definitely recommend rewatching Pretty Woman tonight! Plus, you’ll be watching it every time like it’s the first time.
