Long before Cillian Murphy became mega-famous thanks to Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer, he starred in 28 Days Later, a sci-fi thriller about how Britain is slowly being taken over by an epidemic of aggression viruses. Interestingly, the role was initially offered to Leonardo DiCaprio, who also starred in another Danny Boyle-directed film, ‘The Beach’.

The story was such a success that it has of course already become a franchise. A sequel was made to the film, entitled ’28 Weeks Later’, but Boyle was no longer the director (but remained an executive producer). But in 2024 there was talk of another sequel – this time “28 Years Later”, with Boyle returning as director, and Alex Garland as screenwriter.

As of yet, a premiere date is unknown, but it has been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will be joining the filming (albeit as a producer), and cast members include Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) and Ralph Fiennes (“Grand Budapest Hotel”).
