Despite its resounding failure, the film has acquired cult status in recent years.
Just like his films, Quentin Tarantino loves to surprise the world’s audiences – and especially impress fans with his particular taste in cinema. The eminent director has admitted more than once that he loves films that almost no one likes, or, conversely, despises what the whole world loves so much – but this time Tarantino really shocked everyone with his declarations of love for a long-forgotten and box office failure.
What may be even more surprising to fans of the director in this case is that the film itself has suddenly emerged from obscurity in recent years, becoming something of a cult classic of cinema over the past few decades.
As Tarantino himself said, he was thrilled with the 1979 Arthur Hiller-directed “Nightwing” – so much so that he even showed the film a few times at his Los Angeles movie theater.
According to Tarantino, despite all the criticism it has received, “Nightwing” has many things going for it – the filming itself under Hiller’s direction, the main idea of the film, and even the evil vampire bats that attack the Indian reservation in the film.
The action of ‘Nightwing’ takes place in the state of New Mexico, where local residents are being terrorized by bats that attack both people and livestock. The situation becomes so complicated that law enforcement officials are forced to put aside personal vendettas and unite to combat the threat, despite conflicting views on what is best and worst for the people of the reservation.
