Farrell returns to the role of supervillain.
Two years after the premiere of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the first series based on the original DC universe, Penguin, starring Colin Farrell as the legendary Gotham gangster, was released on HBO.
Fans loved Farrell’s performance in the film so much that Reeves decided to film an entire series with him as the main character. The first episode of Penguin is already available to watch, and viewers are already calling it one of the best shows of 2024.

Director Craig Zobel is being praised for not turning Penguin into another comic book movie, but simply creating an excellent crime thriller, more reminiscent of The Sopranos or The Wire than Arrow.
The first season of the series will consist of only 8 episodes, and here are the release dates:
- Episode 1 – September 19
- Episode 2 – September 29
- Episode 3 – October 6
- Episode 4 – October 13
- Episode 5 – October 20
- Episode 6 – October 27
- Episode 7 – November 3
- Episode 8 – November 10

Some American film critics have already managed to watch the series in its entirety, and most of them agree on one thing: DC has finally managed to create an interesting and very violent cinematic universe that looks many times fresher and more original than the MCU children’s films.
Film critics rated Farrell and his ‘Penguin’ excellent 91% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, with some even predicting a Golden Globe and an Emmy for the actor for his role as a creepy gangster.
