Learn: “Rings of Power”!
Television budgets are already easily competing with big Hollywood blockbusters. Famous actors are increasingly appearing in premieres on streaming services instead of in the cinema. Online platforms are ‘stealing’ the audience from traditional cinema – everything indicates that the public’s preference is clearly leaning towards expensive and big series, instead of blockbusters in cinemas, as was the case in the past.
And while a stellar cast and a huge budget aren’t guaranteed to make a show a success, sometimes the risk is worth it. We’ve rounded up 8 blatantly expensive TV shows that did just that.

Of course, the example of series from our selection can give the impression that everything depends only on the budget. This is certainly not the case – even the example of the Marvel Cinematic Universe clearly proves this.
They began their journey in the Marvel series with “WandaVision” – an experimental, yet daring and exciting project about Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch) and her partner, the android Vision. What seemed like a sweet sitcom about life together actually turned out to be a thriller – after all, everyone remembers Vision dying in Infinity War, and Scarlet Witch quickly turned out not to be such a superhero.
WandaVision’s success won’t last forever, however. Unfortunately, Loki remains the exception to the rule, with most Marvel shows flopping despite all having the same $25 million per episode budget. “Secret Invasion” alone, which even Emilia Clarke and Samuel L. Jackson couldn’t save, is worth watching.
