A key scene was cut from The Deathly Hallows: it made the Harry Potter villains much better

Fans of JK Rowling still can’t forgive Warner Bros. for how many original storylines from the books never made it into the films starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.

With few exceptions, most of the deleted scenes do not play a major role in the development of the story of the saga of the boy who lived. Therefore, it is quite understandable for the producers: they simply tried to remove everything unnecessary from the films.

And only one decision by David Yates cannot be justified: the director deleted an incredibly important first scene from The Deathly Hallows, which completely changed the image of the Dursley family.

When Harry said goodbye to his adoptive family, viewers saw nothing unusual. Vernon, Petunia and Dudley packed their things in the car and drove away.

The original scene of Harry’s farewell to the Dursleys was much more tragic. Yates even filmed a few extra episodes for this storyline, but decided not to include it in the final version.

In one of the deleted scenes, Harry was left alone with Aunt Petunia and heard an unexpected confession from her – the stern aunt suddenly became emotional and remembered her sister, Lily Potter, for the first time.

Petunia stated that the pain of losing her sister still gnawed at her. If this scene had not been cut, viewers would have realized that Petunia wasn’t such a bad person.

The second deleted scene was even more dramatic, with Harry and Dudley saying goodbye and the young wizard telling them to go without him, calling himself a “waste of space.”

In contrast to Dudley’s earlier behavior, Harry’s half-brother suddenly says that he doesn’t think Harry is a “waste of space” and then shakes his hand.

The powerful dramatic moment completely changes Dudley’s character and shows how much he has grown over the years.

Yates was wrong to leave these two scenes out of his film, but the upcoming HBO series certainly won’t make that mistake.
