Many of us associate ‘The Greatest Showman’ with a bright fairy tale and a musical, but in fact the real story is quite dark and it would make much more sense to base a thriller on it.

The film portrays Barnum, played by Hugh Jackman, as an innovator and a good-natured dreamer who strives to create shows for the happiness of all. In reality, Barnum used highly questionable methods to draw attention to his speeches. He was known for exploiting people with physical disabilities or rare diseases, often exhibiting them in degrading conditions in his circus.

Perhaps this is why Annie Jones (on whom the character Letty Lutz or the Bearded Lady was based) left the circus and devoted herself to protecting the rights of the performers.
