No one managed to surpass the brothers.
Supernatural stayed on screen for nearly two decades, and during that time it pushed its creative boundaries beyond its fan base.
The CW’s executives, where the series aired, saw firsthand that spinoffs could become independent and generate revenues comparable to those of the flagship show.
However, not everything was so simple with the history of the Winchesters.
“Ghost Tamers”
Audiences liked the hapless duo of Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler so much that Eric Kripke announced in 2008 the development of a separate project featuring the heroes.
His plans were thwarted by the financial crisis and instead of a full-fledged work it became a web series with ten three-minute episodes.
“Supernatural: The Animation”
The anime was received quite warmly, as evidenced by its score of 7.2 points on Kinopoisk.
The creators tried to show more unique scenes, such as the first meeting of Sam and Jessica, and Jared Padalecki voiced his hero. However, the spin-off did not last longer than one season.
“Supernatural: Bloodline”
“Blood Ties,” about a family of five monsters, was intended as a pilot for a gangster crime drama with fantasy elements, but the idea was ultimately scrapped and the episode became part of Season 9.
“Samuel Colt”
While the third season was airing, the producers were already discussing the possibility of making a fantasy western dedicated to the creator of the legendary Colt.
He could have expanded the series’ universe and looked at everything from a different angle, but it never came to fruition.
“Lost Sisters”
It seemed that only the Sisters, a group of orphaned girls led by Sheriff Jody Mills, could drive out the brothers.
Essentially, the spin-off took the formula of the original and changed the gender of the characters, but in an attempt to deepen the images of the heroines. And yet, this was not enough for success.
“Winchesters”
With a 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this spinoff was the only one that had any chance of developing. It expanded beyond the pilot, brought Dean back into the picture, and filled in some gaps in the main plot.
However, due to bad timing or low fan ratings, the show was never renewed for another season.
