What a good year it was for the film industry: many new films, blockbusters and auteur films came out, and well-known franchises also returned. Of course, there are still more than three months until the end of the year, and in the fall and winter there will be no less good films, but even now it is already possible to compile a list of excellent films released in 2024.

From Luca Guadagnino’s action-packed The Contenders to the Glen Powell comedy I’m Not a Hitman, 2024 has been a genre-diverse year. Last year gave us a showdown between “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” but this year has yet to see such a sensational duet. While there’s a joke among English-speaking film fans about “Glicked” — “Gladiator 2” and “Wicked: A Tale of the Witch of the West” (originally “Wicked”) — whether this duet can hold its own against Barbingheimer remains to be seen this fall.
But even without Barbingheimer, 2024 was full of good movies: the stunning Dune sequel, the critically acclaimed horror film Soul Collector, the return of Pixar with Inside Out 2. And we didn’t forget the indie movies either – if you happened to miss ‘Planet Janet’ from studio A24, this lamp-based coming-of-age story was very warmly received by critics. And what’s even cooler is that it was released in Russia on September 6.
