Tiffany Haddish celebrated having more than three years of sobriety on Saturday, just 11 days after she avoided jail time over her second DUI charge. The 46-year-old comedian, who has 15 million social media followers, marked the milestone in a post on X.
"Life is awesome!" Haddish wrote. "No more waking up in pain. No more waking up next to ugly people. No more toxic relationships. And narcissists REALLY don't like sober Tiffany because I don't feed into the mess anymore. It's actually funny how fast a sober mind will run a toxic soul right up out of your life."
"Giving up alcohol gave me clarity," she continued. "Over three years with no alcohol, and I can see my dreams clearer than ever. And now I actually believe I'm going to make every damn one of them come true."
The Emmy and Grammy winner said she decided to stop drinking after realizing, while sitting in court, how alcohol fueled crimes such as domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, theft and battery.
"I really wonder what would happen if everybody stopped drinking for just six weeks," Haddish wrote. "How many arguments wouldn't happen? How many bad decisions wouldn't get made? How many people wouldn't end up in court?"
Haddish, who broke out in the 2017 comedy "Girls Trip," has won an Emmy Award for her hosting work on "Kids Say the Darndest Things" and a Grammy Award for her comedy album "Black Mitzvah." She has also hosted "Saturday Night Live" and served as a guest host on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
A Second DUI Charge
Haddish's trouble began in 2022, when Peachtree City Police in Georgia found her asleep behind the wheel, resulting in her first DUI.
The following year, the Los Angeles Police Department caught the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover star slumped in her car and blocking traffic in Beverly Hills, California, with a blood alcohol content of08 percent. She took a plea deal for probation on a charge of reckless driving.
On August 11, Haddish pleaded guilty to "DUI driving less safe," a misdemeanor alcohol-related driving charge, under another plea deal that allowed her to avoid jail time.
Haddish, who competed on "The Masked Singer" as the character Le Who Who, received a sentence of one year of probation, suspension of her driving privileges in Georgia, random drug and alcohol testing, a DUI course and 40 hours of community service.
"I'm never coming back! No more Georgia! No more!" Haddish declared via Zoom at the court hearing.
Stand-Up and New Projects
The Los Angeles native is next scheduled to conclude a three-night stand-up run at Levity Live in West Nyack, New York, on Sunday.
The music video for Haddish's new single, "Tell Me Who," featuring rappers Jadakiss and Begetz, is set to drop this Friday.
On screen, Haddish will next play police captain Erica Graysmith in Brando Benetton's kidnapping thriller "The Girl in the River," out in US theaters and on VOD September 4 alongside Ralph Macchio, Devon Sawa and Maggie Grace.
She will also play police deputy Amanda Jackson in Matt Sukkar's crime thriller "The Deputy," hitting US theaters and VOD September 25 alongside William H. Macy, Stephen Dorff, Julia Fox and Duke Nicholson.
Personal Life
Haddish has been publicly single since ending her year-long relationship with rapper Common in 2021. She previously divorced her ex-husband William Stewart twice, in 2011 and 2013.
