If you believe the critics…
In 2019, the public greeted the news of the release of the seventh installment of the cult franchise with mixed feelings.
On one hand, fans are eager to return to the space where no one can hear you scream; on the other hand, the failure of the previous films didn’t inspire confidence.
That’s probably why screenwriters Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayages were quick to assure viewers that they had nothing to worry about.
After all, the action of “Alien: Romulus” took place between the two original films from 1979 and 1986, exactly during the period when Ellen Ripley was in suspended animation.
The plot revealed the story of a group of young colonists who, while exploring an abandoned space station, encounter the most terrible and dangerous form of life in the universe.
The press was the first to see the new product and concluded that it was perhaps the most powerful film of all previously presented.
“A wild rollercoaster ride through the previous six parts, with references and a self-contained story full of blood and horror,” according to Gizmodo’s Germaine Lussier’s impressions.
According to Variety’s Jazz Tangkay, “Romulus” made a powerful statement.
The reviewer praised the makers for using practical effects and following the canons of the previous century:
“The sound design and world building are so good it gave me nightmares.”
The list of benefits also includes:
- exciting story,
- gloomy atmosphere
- professional camera work
- and penetrating music.
The cast also received praise, with critics singling out Fall of the Empire’s Cailee Spaeny and American Horror Story star Spike Fern.
The world premiere took place today. The film is expected to hit Russian screens on August 16.
