It’s hard to believe it’s been a full decade since The Voice UK debuted on our TV screens in 2012.

The singing competition aired on BBC One at the time, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates, before eventually moving to ITV due to fears that the show would “eclipse” The X Factor.

Leanne Mitchell was eventually crowned the winner of the first series, but then stopped singing altogether after a furious argument with Judge Sir Tom Jones.

With an original panel consisting of Jessie J, will.i.am, Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue, the show finally ended its run on the BBC in 2015.

But where are the stars of the first series now? From connecting in real life to horrific fights, let’s take a look.

Season 1 winner Leanne Mitchell stunned fans when she won the show hosted by Tom Jones and later released her debut single Run to You in June 2012.

However, her debut album proved to be a “huge flop” when it was released the following year, reaching number 134 on the charts and Leanne was sadly abandoned by her label in 2014.

And soon after, Sir Tom cruelly suggested that it was Leanne’s weight gain that led her to “sing at the holiday camp” instead of being at the top of the charts.

Speaking to The Sun, she said, “Leanne Mitchell, the girl who won the first one, sang at the holiday camp and still does. And she wasn’t too mad.

She added: “When she first appeared on the show, I thought about it [her] down a little, but she had gotten comfortable in that summer camp and had put on weight, because of what she was like when she was younger and because of the images from when she had a record deal years ago.

She said Leanne “got fatter” after winning The Voice, telling the publication she “felt more comfortable” with her partner, now husband, camp activity instructor Rob Hurren.

Tom said Leanne “didn’t have the motivation” in the furious outburst.

Bo Bruce ended up being one of The Voice’s most successful contestants, eventually finishing in second place under the leadership of Danny O’Donoghue.

Real name Lady Catherine Anna Brudenell-Bruce, Bo is the daughter of the Earl of Cardigan David Brudenell-Bruce and his first wife, Rosamond Winkley.

She is also the granddaughter of the 8th Marquess of Ailesbury, Michael Brudenell-Bruce, and her older brother Thomas is Viscount Savernake.

Her family home is a 4,500-acre estate in Wiltshire, Tottenham House, near Savernake Forest, and has grown into a lodge on the estate.

Interestingly, her distant cousin Florence is a lingerie model and former actress, who appeared in The Great Pottery Throwdown in 2020.

tragic loss

It wasn’t easy for Bo to take part in The Voice 2012, as her mother was dying of pancreatic cancer at the time, leaving her upset.

Bo told The Sun at the time that she struggled to focus on both the singing competition and her mother, admitting she was “sleeping on many hospital floors” while trying to win the competition.

She told the publication: “It was incredibly difficult. I want to make this experience on The Voice something life changing, but my biggest fan is also my mom and I want to be with her.

He added that his mother was unable to get to the studio but was “watching [her] of the hospital “.

Bo also said at the time that she hadn’t spoken to her father “in a long time” and wasn’t ready to reconcile after seven years without speaking.

Bo’s mother died of cancer that year.

Becky Hill, who achieved musical fame by performing at various festivals, allegedly quarreled with her co-stars, the Indie and Pixie duo, when both were led by Jessie J.

But soon the two actors were forced to turn to social media to deny the breakup, with Indie and Pixie tweeting at the time: “TO DELETE THAT … Regardless of what they say in the papers or on the rumor tonight, we and @ rebeckyhill we had a great time out there. wonderfully … “

As Becky added, “I need to say something… I’m so angry. Last night’s show made me and @IndieandPixie not friends and we had a lot of tough stuff between us. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

“For all the people who criticize you, you can’t be wrong anymore, you need to understand that THIS IS TV, NOT REAL LIFE. The girls are great and they don’t deserve the nonsense people say about them. “

Coach Jessie J also assessed the unfair modification of the acts, telling fans, “Editing. Something very powerful.

Ejected in the semifinals, singer Max Milner reached number 63 on the UK Singles Chart with a version of Tom Petty’s Free Fallin ‘.

But he’s not the most famous person in his family, as his mother caused a sensation representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Sally Anne Triplett has performed twice at Eurovision, first in 1980 and again in 1982, as part of the bands Prima Donna and Bardo.

He has also made numerous television appearances, including on EastEnders, Crackerjack! and Doctors, admitting that he would only consider making Eurovision a third time if he was offered a particularly strong ballad.
