This film has just been released and is already being touted as a replacement for the cult ‘Silence of the Lambs’

For over thirty years, The Silence of the Lambs was considered one of the best detective thrillers in history. And now a movie has been released that seems to want to replace this masterpiece. We tell you what’s cool about it and how viewers react.

What kind of movie is this?

The film was called “The Collector of Souls” and Nicolas Cage played one of the leading roles. The world premiere has already taken place and the film will be released in Russia on July 25.

Briefly about the plot: a cop named Lee Harker tries to catch a horrible maniac. His nickname is the Soul Collector and for more than ten years he has been brutally dealing with families whose members have murdered each other for unknown reasons.

Why is the image compared to ‘Lambs’?

First of all, there are super charismatic villains. Even if the maniac in the new film isn’t as eloquent as Lecter, his presence still makes you feel creepy even through the screen. Secondly, both heroines here are forced to confront the contempt directed at them. Both Clarissa and Lee are both defending their place in a male-dominated system.

And overall, the general tone of the film is very similar. The interrogation scenes, the ending, the overall feeling of watching it all reminds me of The Silence of the Lambs, but in a positive way. You don’t feel like you’re watching a fake.

By the way, there is also a bit of the supernatural here. In the new film, the agent is helped by a special gift in addition to intuition and deductive methods.

Of course, it’s still too early to say that the film has definitively surpassed its predecessor. But their ratings on Rotten Tomatoes are identical, which clearly indicates the success of the film. Moreover, Soul Collector grossed over $20 million in its opening weekend, while The Silence of the Lambs grossed $13 million in the same period.
