When you first look at it, you don’t notice it.

Oppenheimer turned out to be a very controversial film by Christopher Nolan. Some people found the story of the scientist who led the creation of the first atomic bomb brilliant, while others called it a brutal, boring story. I will say this: the picture has both pros and cons. Here is what struck me after watching it again.

Nolan is the best director for this story

There is something to criticize the director for. His films are often too cold emotionally, but in the case of ‘Oppenheimer’ this drawback turned out to be a plus. Here too Nolan is cold, but this intonation fits perfectly with Oppenheimer’s personality.

Female characters are less developed than male characters

They seem to serve as a complement to the overall picture. For me, both Kitty and Jean Tatlock really come into their own in their relationships with Oppenheimer, while the other characters have their own stories and motivations.

The film has a chaotic start

I didn’t really like the editing of the film in the first half hour. Nolan immediately set a super fast pace, which made it difficult to follow what was happening; you immediately got a slight overload. But after that everything becomes normal. Almost.

The emphasis in the film is on the wrong

Despite all the confusion, there was also the feeling that you were watching a visualization of a Wikipedia article, and not an exciting movie. The ending in particular was boring. Yes, it is super important for the plot, but compared to the first two and a half hours it is already boring. And in general there are very drawn out moments – as if Nolan decides to draw the audience’s attention to the most boring places in the script.

Robert Downey Jr. is cool

Yes, this is such an unexpected conclusion, but it is impossible not to praise the actor. While watching, I saw Lewis Strauss in him, but not Iron Man, and that is why I absolutely liked him. He has a completely different image here, which the actor simply handled brilliantly.
