Don’t worry, there will be no superficial retelling of the plot.

Game of Thrones fans, rejoice. In the future, you will have the opportunity to watch your favorite series in a new reading. And all because HBO plans to reboot the cult project in an Asian version. But you will have to wait a little (actually a lot).

Who’s going to make the Asian version?

HBO representative Jessica Kam-Engle shared plans for a reboot, noting that Asian directors and screenwriters are full of talented specialists who could easily craft a script for a new large-scale project.

“In terms of stories, there are a lot of Asian dramas where characters are fighting for power. Add a few dragons into the mix and we have something very Game of Thrones-esque.”Kam-Engle said in an interview.

That is, the creators do not intend to stupidly copy an already existing plot. There will probably be overlaps, but judging from the words of the representative, the show will have its own twist and will be a breath of fresh air for fans of this universe.

When can we expect the premiere?

But here’s the problem. With all the diversity of directors and screenwriters, Kam-Eng lamented the dire shortage of producers who could handle such a large-scale filmmaking process.

So an HBO rep predicts the release in about… five years. According to her, the Asian film industry will be ready for this kind of experience at this point. In the meantime, the company wants to focus on smaller Chinese and Japanese projects to meet the needs of these audiences and not lose them.
