You will laugh harder than at any comedy.

Remaking a film by a director like Quentin Tarantino is a daring task. But Indian directors don’t care – and so in 2002, the Indian version of the film ‘Reservoir Dogs’ was released. It could have ended well, if there hadn’t been a single ‘but’.

What is the title of the movie?

The painting was called “Stranger Among Us.” Here’s the plot: Six strangers find themselves in a prison cell. Their fate is not easy, so they decide to rob a bank. But the police catch them and it becomes clear that someone has betrayed them. Arriving at the warehouse, they discover who the traitor turned out to be.

Overall, both the plot and the visuals are just a dry retelling of the original. But here lies the biggest problem. This being India, not adding dance and song to the film is a crime worse than theft.

And this may have killed the whole seriousness of the picture. Two heroes with a bottle of beer in their hands singing songs – this would certainly make Tarantino’s eyes pop out of his head. And this is just one scene from many similar ones.

What does the audience say about the film?

In Russia, of course, almost nothing was heard about it, so there are not even ratings on Kinopoisk. But foreigners, especially everyone living in India, seem to have appreciated the film, because on IMDb it scored 6.6 points, which is not so low.

But the audience’s opinions were, as usual, divided. Someone gives the film a ten and says it is an excellent film adaptation, while others write that the film is not worth a second.

“It’s clear that the film is made for the Indian audience, not for the American audience. So it’s not fair to compare it to a Hollywood film. But I saw it in a packed theater. And judging by the reactions, everyone liked it,”

“It feels like I’m watching a music video, not a movie. The image changes from black and white to color every few minutes. It’s like the whole movie was made by a hyperactive teenager who just learned all the film techniques.”
