Still from the movie “Fallen Angels”

The directorial debut was quite successful.

Tom Cruise apparently subscribes to the theory that everyone should mind their own business. Because during his rich acting career he only made one film. But he succeeded. That makes it doubly strange that he left the path of the director. In any case, he has only filmed for the past thirty years, but not filmed.

Granted, Cruise didn’t direct a full-length feature film. He directed the fourth installment of Sydney Pollack’s Fallen Angels series. But then they did what’s called eternal! So it’s entirely possible to consider the film a feature film.

In total, 15 episodes of the series were released. And some were shot by famous actors, such as Tom Cruise: Alfonso Cuaron, Tom Hanks, Kiefer Sutherland and other Hollywood stars. But let’s return to the series “Frightening Frammis” from the pen of the main character of “Impossible Mission”. Cruise fulfilled his directorial mission from beginning to end.

What is this mysterious “Frightening Frammis”? This is a very successful adaptation of a story by Jim Thompson. Incidentally, the episode brought together a whole galaxy: from Peter Gallagher to Isabella Rossellini and Joe Viterelli. However, the series turned out, unlike the whole project, not to be very noir. And the ending is a bit vague.

Still, for a directorial debut, and this was a debut from a young actor, it turned out to be pretty decent. Especially compared to some of the episodes Cruise’s co-stars directed, but we’re all polite here and not pointing fingers. At the same time, the series, while old, is definitely worth checking out. Unless, of course, you’ve already rated everything in the world, and you’re simply out of options, because “noir,” a genre I’m actually a big fan of.
