The detective thriller was a success.
The miniseries ‘Presumed Innocent’ consists of eight episodes and will most likely not get a second season. The viewers were presented with a complete and very exciting story, after which we would not be surprised if Jake Gyllenhaal is nominated for an Emmy.
In the Apple TV project, which debuts its first episode on June 12, Gyllenhaal played Rusty Sabich, a deputy district attorney in Chicago. A man is on trial on suspicion of the brutal murder of his fellow lover Caroline Polhemus, played by Renate Reinsve, which he initially investigated himself.
It is noteworthy that in the film adaptation of the novel, on which “Presumed Innocent” was based, a film was released in 1990 with Harrison Ford himself in the title role, but the new version turned out to be noticeably more successful than the old one. one for different reasons.
So in the movie, all the female and child characters are nothing more than a backdrop for the male ones, and they play no special role in the plot (unlike the book). The project with Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, proved faithful to the original source, and therefore both Sabich’s children and his wife are shown here as the real victims of the ‘left-wing’ head of the family.
The series can easily be called one of the best thrillers of recent years, as viewers cannot decide what to think of Rusty during almost all episodes. He is either cold, selfish and narcissistic, or kind and affable, and both sides of his personality seem real, and not a ‘mask’.
Well, several brilliant twists in the second part of the series ensure that viewers cannot sit still and wait for the sequel. Handsome Gyllenhaal perfectly played the male mystery that we all have to solve.
