Only a few watched these sixteen valuable Soviet films, but in vain

Even zoomers know the adventures of Shurik, Mymra’s office romance and the hard life of Ippolit. However, not every parent is familiar with Soviet films, which may not have attracted millions of viewers in cinemas, but have taken a place in cinema history.

This selection contains 16 of the most underrated films from a wide audience that still deserve attention even decades after their premiere:

“The Beloved Wife of the Mechanic Gavrilin” became an important work for Lyudmila Gurchenko. In an interview, the actress recalled how she received the Best Actress Award at the International Film Festival, after managing to surpass her rival from Spain. Although critics considered the plot average, Gurchenko’s performance won them over. A jury member from the United States was amazed at how frantically the heroine waited for her mechanic, and this comment determined who would go home with a gold statue.

The film ‘A Dog Walked along the Piano’ could initially have been directed by Georgy Danelia, but his colleague dissuaded him from this idea and later the director conquered the country with the hit ‘Mimino’. The story of his helicopter pilot was so loved by the Soviet people that many forgot about the pilot Komarov. But in vain, because the film found not only the favor of professional critics, who awarded him two statues, but also the love of ordinary viewers, who even today remember the film with warmth.

It’s a rarity to see ‘My Good Dad’ on TV. However, this particular picture amazes fans of Soviet cinema with its special sincerity, the unusual image of Alexander Demyanenko and the non-standard approach to depicting war.
