Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 single ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ returned to the top 10 after starring in Prime Video’s controversial new film Saltburn.
In the Golden Globe-nominated film, Sophie’s 22-year-old hit single resurfaced in one of the thriller-comedy’s final scenes.
Fans are obsessing over the new film on TikTok, Instagram and Twitter, causing Sophie’s platinum-selling song to shoot up the charts.
The song reached number 8 – Sophie’s first time in the charts since 2007 – and also climbed to the top of the Spotify charts in the US.
The hit movie starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell.

And in the very last scene of the film, Barry’s character dances completely naked around a mansion while the song from 2001 plays in the background.
Sophie shared the wonderful news with her fans and thanked viewers for playing the song over and over since the film came out.
She shared a photo of the album on X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “xxxxxx thank you!”
The film follows a seemingly working Oxford university student from Merseyside, played by Barry (31), who falls in love with upper class student Felix, played by Jacob (26).
The song’s second hit comes after Sophie performed her own version of Saltburn’s final scene in celebration of New Year’s Eve on Sunday.
She looked stunning in a multicolored sequin dress as she ran down the stairs to the beat of the song in a TikTok video.

The singer originally released her hit single in 2001
Speaking to Pink News in November about the use of her song in the film, Sophie said: “I really loved the film.”
“It’s funny because when you’re asked if a song is involved in something, you always get a little summary or a rough idea of the post. I just thought it was brilliant. It’s so beautifully shot.
The script is peppery and funny, sharp and witty, and then someone dances completely naked to my song. I can’t wait for more people to see it. It’s quite an unexpected moment.’
Saltburn was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards: Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for Barry and Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture Drama for Rosamund.

Rosamund (44) plays Felix’s mother. This nomination is her fourth and if she wins it will be her second Golden Globe, with Richard (66) playing Felix’s father.
Barry, who is from Ireland, first rose to fame in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals (2021).
For his role in the tragicomedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” (2023) he was nominated for a Golden Globe and won a BAFTA.
Jacob was best known for his role in the gritty drama Euphoria before winning critical acclaim for his role as Elvis Presley in the biopic Priscilla (2023).
Saltburn is now available to watch on Amazon Prime.
