The 2024 Oscars move the start time back an hour;  “Abbott Elementary” follows its broadcast on ABC

Film fans won’t have to wait as long for the Oscars next year.

ABC and Oscar organizer Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday that they are moving the start time for the 2024 Academy Awards by one hour on Sunday, March 10, meaning they will be at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT. start. lasts until 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT.

ABC, which has begun using the Oscars as a launch for its flagship shows, will follow its coverage of the live ceremony with an original episode of ” Abbott Elementary School. Jimmy Kimmel returns to host the 96th ceremony at the Dolby Theater. This is his fourth time hosting the show, which has aired on ABC since 1976.

ABC’s time adjustment also means that the annual preshow will now be 30 minutes long (instead of the usual 90 minutes, which airs at 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT). As usual, the main Oscar telecast will be rebroadcast after the live telecast in prime time in the Pacific time zone.

Nominations for this year’s Oscars are scheduled for January 23. The shortlists in eight categories will be announced on December 21.

Raj Kapoor will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the 96th Academy Awards, along with executive producers Molly McNearney and Katy Mullan. Directed by Hamish Hamilton.
