Film journalist David Shneiderov explained in an interview with PopCornNews that Turkish projects are less popular in Russia because they are similar to Latin American shows from the 80s and 90s. The Koreans have an undeniable advantage.
“If you think back to The Squid Game, it’s a synthesis of American cinema and Korean. In “The Squid Game” there are actors who play in a purely Hollywood way, in an American-European way, which is absolutely close to our hearts, ”explained the expert.
According to the specialist, the domestic audience is accustomed to American projects. For this reason, the viewers watch Korean TV series, made at the crossroads of the national and American-European style, with undisguised pleasure. But not all Asian filmmakers manage to conquer the hearts of the Russians.
Japanese paintings to this day are so traditional and original that people risk not understanding them. Chinese cinema, in turn, is censored, which is why the domestic movie buff, if he is ready to see something from the Middle Kingdom, is militants and nothing more.
