Gogglebox favorites Pete and Sophie Sandiford have a famous great-uncle: Paul Elliott, perhaps best known as children’s television entertainer Paul Chuckle.

Paul, the 74-year-old TV star who appeared on the BBC’s ChuckleVision with his brother Barry Elliott from 1987 to 2009, shared a glimpse of himself on Twitter this week with Pete and Sophie, both 26 years old.

She was seen sitting together on a sofa between the couple and captioned the photo, “2018 today, with my niece and nephew.”

Along with another image, Paul described himself as a “proud uncle”.

Pete and Sophie’s other great-uncle Paul’s brother Barry died at the age of 73 on August 5, 2018, after battling cancer.

Sophie wrote on social media at the time: “He’s such a sweet and fun guy to deal with. You filled millions of childhood years with laughter and fun, including mine and Peter’s.

Pete and Sophie, who have two more siblings named Harry and Lucy, have been regulars of Gogglebox since 2018.

This comes after Paul says he once saw the ghost of his late brother Barry backstage at a show and that Paul’s beloved older brother sent him a message from the afterlife as he was preparing to perform on his own.

When the duo’s ChuckleVision theme song began playing during a pantomime starring Paul, Paul said: “The Sun saw his brother “wink” and “nod”, giving him the confidence to go on stage alone.

Remember: “I remember standing on the wings and waiting for the music playing.

“Barry would be on the other side of where he came from and he wasn’t there.

“But I swear I could see him on the edge of the stage and he nodded and winked at me. Getting on stage gave me confidence and the audience lifted me up nicely.’

Barry died of lung cancer in 2018, the TV and theater star fell ill while filming a new TV series called Chuckle Time.

At the time, Paul paid a soulful tribute, saying, “I didn’t just lose my brother, I lost my playmate and my best friend for many years.”

He was known for their iconic slogan: The Chuckle Brothers (pictured on The Paul O'Grady Show in 2009).
