EastEnders fans were left in shock on Wednesday when Kheerat Panesar was sentenced to life in prison after he falsely confessed to killing Ranveer Gulati.
Kheerat confessed to the crime after his mother Suki thought she killed the Ranveer family friend by hitting him on the head when he tried to attack her.
However, Ravi discovered that Ranveer lived after his attack on Suki and was the one who dealt the killing blow before covering up his crime to frame Suki.
After her family discovers her apparent crime, her son Kheerat (Jaz Deol) confesses that he wanted to protect his mother and is now sentenced to life in prison.
Suki (Balvinder Sopal) then found a USB stick with evidence of her actions behind a drawer, which made her realize her abusive husband Nish (Navin Chowdhry) had kept the evidence.

The caring mother then decided to confess to the crime to save her son before Nish managed to retrieve the USB drive and leave the evidence out of her hands.
And viewers were devastated to hear of Kheerat’s conviction for a crime he did not commit, calling on showbase to overturn his conviction.
One tweeted: “Absolutely outraged that Kheerat is getting his life, he didn’t deserve it, he did nothing wrong. EastEnders really soiled him.”
Another predicted: “Something will definitely happen off screen to ensure Kheerat is finally released! This can’t be where his life sentence is going!”
A third tweeted: “How did Kheerat come to life when he didn’t even do it,” while a fourth added, “So Kheerat got life in jail poor Suki.”
And another asked: “How did Kheerat come to life if nothing proves that it is him?”
Kheerat’s future remains uncertain after actor Jaz Deol confirmed his departure from the BBC soap, with his final scenes showing him being taken away by the police.
With no return of Kheerat planned, it remains uncertain whether his life sentence will be overturned or whether the truth about Ranveer’s death will ever come to light.

Suki was devastated in Wednesday’s episode after her love interest Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) told her about Kheerat’s devastating punishment.
Eve first broke the news to Kheerat’s girlfriend, Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), leaving viewers completely shocked.
Eve explained that her friend at court told her about Kheerat’s sentencing and dropped the shocking bombshell: “He’s come alive, Stace.”
Sharing her shock, Stacey said: “No, I thought they were going to make it easy for him.”
But Eve said, “I know I’m so sorry, Suki will be devastated, I have to look after her.”
Eve then went to Suki’s house to comfort her secret friend, only to find that Suki was oblivious to the horrifying news.
Eve said, “I know I probably shouldn’t be here, but you should be in shock.”
But Suki said, “What are you talking about?”
To which Eve revealed: “I spoke to my partner who works at the courthouse and… [he got] Life.’
A devastated Suki began sobbing in Eva’s arms and screamed, “No, no, no!”
Eve said, “I’m so sorry, I’m sorry I thought you knew.”
But Suki said, “I don’t understand, everything just falls apart.”
Eve asked, “Why is there anything else?”

Suki then reveals that she found a USB flash drive behind a drawer in her kitchen containing evidence of Ranveer’s attack on her.
She said, “I found it hidden behind a drawer.”
Suki shared her belief that Ravi kept the footage after he said he deleted it, but Eve argued that it also incriminated him when he disposed of the body.
Eve then told her, “You know who held it, the man who always tries to control you.”
Suki said the footage was deleted before the laptop was returned to Nish, but Eve explained that “nothing is ever really deleted” and can be recovered.
At that moment, Nish came home and told Suki to hide the USB drive in a coffee pot to hide the fact that she found it from her husband.
She then told Nish that Kheerat was sentenced to life imprisonment before she tried to cover up to find the memory stick.
Explaining the mess and the removed drawer, Suki said, “When I heard the news, I just lost control.”
But Nish insisted, “Everything will be fine,” before ordering Eva to have coffee with Suki while he cleaned up for her.
While talking to Eve, Suki said she intends to confess to the crime and give the police the evidence to save her son.
Eve said, “We have to find this USB stick and destroy it because the police can never see it.”
But Suki said, “What if the police see this? Then they would let Kheerat go. I don’t expect you to understand this, but I have to do this for my son.”
Eve asked, “Please stop running Suki.”
But Suki insisted, “I’ve decided.”
Tense: Elsewhere in the episode, Suki found a memory stick with evidence of her actions hidden in a drawer, leading her to realize that her abusive husband Nish had been keeping the evidence.
Oh no! After sharing her plans to confess to the crime to save Kheerat, Suki came home to find that Nish had taken the USB stick back, foiling her plans.
After returning home to get the USB stick for the police, she was confronted by Nish, who asked her, “Are you looking for something?”
He then startled the USB stick when he realized he found it in Suki’s temporary hiding place and took the evidence from her hands.
It remains to be seen whether Suki can give the evidence to the police or what Nish will do with the evidence.
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
